Bulgaria Expecting More Intense Heat This Week
After temperatures reached unusual heights for the season the past week, Bulgaria is to see even hotter weather the coming days.
Tuesday, June 26, is expected to be the hottest day, Novinar newspaper reported.
Thermometres in some parts of the country will show as much as 38 degrees Celsius.
By the end of the week, some rainfall will occur but the temperatures will remain between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. The heat wave will move away from the Balkan region in the end of the week.
Novinar reported that Bulgarians in various parts of the country suffered health problems because of the heat. The hot weather caused the death of an elderly man in the town of Gabrovo.
Emergency aid centres in Sofia receive as much as 120 aid requests per day. Medics said that people with cardiovascular problems and elderly people should stay home from 11am to 4pm.
Despite the heat, the Bourgas region experienced a thunderstorm. Hurricane and hail hit the Shoumen region.
