EU Countries Unhappy with Bulgaria and Romania
EU to be more concentrated with regard to the development of judicial reforms and anti-corruption measures in Bulgaria and Romania.
This has been demanded by five EU states during a joint meeting of the EU member countries, informed BBC.
Great Britain, Netherlands, Finland, France and Sweden have requested clearer and more consistent monitoring of EU on the two countries in the field of judicial system as well as in the fight against corruption.
According to the information the initiative aims at increasing the pressure and to put the preventive clauses for the two countries.
According to BBC the ambassadors of the five countries have requested a meeting with Catherine Day, Secretary-General of the European Commission, responsible for the cooperation with Romania and Bulgaria.
The meeting should happen middle of April.
The representatives of the five countries will ask for greater transparency in terms of the measures taken by Sofia and Bucharest in the problematic fields, since “they think the reform mechanism is not used according to the determined way by the two countries and the measures that have been taken in the problematic fields are insufficient”.
During the meeting, the five representatives will request all the results from the EC's check-up of Bulgaria and Romania's progress, informs BBC and adds that the announced results will be discussed with the other EU member states.
The initiative of the five countries is not a direct request for imposition of the preventive clauses for the two countries, comments BBC but it is an attempt to increase the pressure for Bulgaria and Romania to take more tangible measures in the problematic fields.
