New owners to take over Bulgarian store chains Piccadilly, Burlex
Two local convenience store chains, one regional and one national, will be acquired by new owners, Dnevnik learned from market sources.
The information was confirmed by the targeted companies.
Food retailer Familia, owned by investment fund Equest, is about the conclude the acquisition of Varna-based counterpart Burlex, confirmed Equest managing partner Georgi Krumov.
Another food retailer, Piccadilly, confirmed that it will be sold to a new owner within the next month and a half. One of the possible buyers is Serbia's Delta but there are other candidates in the frame as well.
For months, Piccadilly, with stores in Varna, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo and Sofia, has been courting strategic investors interested in buying a stake in the company or possibly opting for a 100% take-over.
The store chain did not intend to shop itself to potential buyers before the second stage of its planned development wraps in late 2008. But the intense interest of foreign investors prompted the company to retrofit its strategy.
Familia, which operates only in Sofia, recently said it was considering branching out into the regional markets through the acquisition of small local operations.(Dnevnik)
