Shuttered Amusement Park Sofialand To Be Redeveloped
Former amusement park Sofialand will be redeveloped after the necessary corrections are entered in the masterplan of the capital city.
The Sofia municipal council Thursday decided that the masterplan should be updated accordingly within six months.
The Sofialand owners have already requested the rezoning of the park, said Sofia chief architect Petar Dikov, withholding the name of the owner.
In Dikov's view, the site is suitable for the construction of three 20-floor buildings. The redevelopment will thus affect only 10% of the 3.5 ha park, leaving the remainder as green spaces.
However, the architecture and urban planning directorate of the municipality said the Sofialand owner is seeking planning approval for the construction of a multi-purpose building and not high-rises.
Sofialand, which opened in 2002 before shutting down last year, is officially considered to be a property of British company Complete Entertainment Limited.
Media reports have linked the company to the local First Investment Bank which has repeatedly loan-financed Sofialand projects.
In April this year, Bulgarian consulting company NC Industries posted a sale listing for the amusement park on its website. The company did not say on Thursday if the property has been sold.(Dnevnik)
