Unusually High Temperatures in Bulgaria, Skiing Conditions Still Favourable FAVOURABLE
The temperature in the town of Veliko Turnovo reached 20 degrees Celsius on February 11.
Meteorologists said the temperature was exceptionally high for the season. The previous all time high was 19.6 degrees, measures in 1912.
Nearly record temperature was registered in Vidin as well. Thermometres there showed 16 degrees Celsius. Vratsa and Montana saw temperatures of 15 and 16 degrees respectively.
Temperatures are expected to increase by two to three degrees in the coming days.
Mountain conditions are suitable for skiing, Darik Radio reported. The snow coverage at Vitosha Mountain, located close to Sofia, reached 65cm and the temperature at Cherni Vruh peak is -3 degrees.
Borovets winter resort’s snow coverage varies between 90 and 120 cm.
Temperatures in Bansko and Pamporovo winter resorts are positive. Bansko’s snow coverage reaches up to 110 cm, Pamporovo tracks have nearly 40cm of snow.
All ski facilities function. Mountain rescue services warned that the high temperatures increased avalanche threat.
