Weather in Bulgaria's Mountains Mild, Avalanche Risk High
Despite the official end of the skiing season, skiers in Bulgaria are offered good conditions to enjoy a swoosh or two down the slopes over the weekend.
Weather in the mountains is calm and sunny with temperatures varying from 3C below zero up to the positive side of the scale. Tourists should be on high alert as melting snow is known to trigger avalanches, the highest risk faced in the resorts of Borovets and Bansko.
Bulgaria has seen a number of reports about avalanches as the weather started to warm up. Mayors of major resorts have recently suggested that a twenty-four hour avalanche monitoring service is introduced to timely warn visitors of the threat. The service will be funded by the resorts' owners after the required amendments to local legislation are adopted.
